Description: |
Blütenfülle means a wealth of flowers and is based on the words of the 19th century educationalist, Friedrich Froebel, who said children are like tiny flowersthey are varied and need care, but each is beautiful alone and glorious when seen in the community of peers. The 16 hand-cut illustrations represent two visions. The first is of an individual child, blossoming as they discover and gain an understanding of the world around them. The second shows many children, like flowers in a garden, each unique and special, enriching the world around them, making it a more beautiful place to be. Papercutting is one of Froebels forms of beauty, however, blütenfülle is not froebelian. Froebel maintained that a sheet of paper was a permanent object and all pieces cut from the paper must be used as part of the finished work. This practice supported Froebels strict notion of transformationhow an object can withstand a superficial change and still maintain unity with its former state--Artists statement from Abecedarian Gallery website (viewed November 16, 2015).Daria Wilber is a papermaker/artist living in rural Colorado.
