It never ceases to amaze me how things mysteriously connect in the infinity of circumstances that surround a life. In piecing together a period in the lives of these people and trying to creatively imagine a sequence of events from a limited amount of material, I was reminded of my grandparents and remembered looking at souvenirs from their travels and listening to the stories that went with them. Poignant and imaginative, the book honors and illuminates not only the lives of its subjects but the era in which they lived. It is as if the reader were recapturing a distinct period in someones life. Postcards, letters, and photographs-reproduced using lithography and serigraphy-tell the story. Letterpress printed in Bembo and Times Italic. Various papers and text/image overlays plus hidden packets of text. Landscape format hints at the small photo album.
