Kentucky birds

Description: An altered book using Roger W. Barbours Kentucky birds: a finding guide (Lexington, Ky. : University Press of Kentucky, c1973).Materials: Field guide, Book, book board, book cloth, graphite, exacto knife, wood glue, pva glue, glue, pages--From CABFinePaperworks website.I personally hand cut, with my trusty exacto, some 155 Kentucky outlines into this existing field guide. As I progressed through, one page at a time, each was considered carefully in regards to the information that would remain in tact and that which was to be sacrificed. The end result is a delicious layering of words and birds. This sculpture has satisfying heft and that delicious old book smell. Kentucky birds: a finding guide came bound in a handsome hardcover volume...after hollowing the book I felt it needed a second housing, so I also created an attractive slip case for this work, to protect it with all of its due respect. The two parts combined measure approximately 9 x 5.75 and 1.25 thick, and represent 48+ hours of hand labor...EcoNote: I use coverboard that is made from 100% recycled post-consumer paper, in all of my boxed and hard covered art books-Artists statement from CABFinePaperworks website.I-ART: Librarys copy signed and dated by the artist.
