Description: |
direct fire on archival paper. Edition of 5. I am fully aware of the loaded connotation and the symbolism of tree. But in my mind the image of tree is not the main subject. What is beyond the tree of knowledge which we can not see, is something I am trying to grapple with. The image seen in my works are not made by the pigment sitting on the surface as of a conventional drawing, but by a technique normally associated with a secret correspondence in the past, called “aburi-dashi” in Japanese.Using fire, acid and water, the images are made as the integral part of the paper. The resulting image contains a level of fragility and notion of death within it by nature.Likewise, in my work connotation of the transience associated with the methodology is important as it highlights a position at the opposite end of spectrum from the monumentalism. |
