Edition: 3 copies; Dimensions: 3.75 x 4 inches (book) 6 x 10.75 (bag)Materials: spiral notebook, photocopy text, glue, biohazard specimen bag, black duct tape, rubber stamp and adhesive labels.Holly Andersons limited edition books Lily Lou (Purgatory Pie Press NYC) and Sheherezade & This Book is Extremely Receptive (both with artist Janet Zweig) are in library collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, Walker Art Center, Harry Ransom Center at UT, Austin and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Her newest book The Night She Slept With A Bear is now available as an app. Words Were His Water employs the cheap little spiral-bound that a kid would pick up -ba notebook to lose - perhaps chosen by a small excitable boy visiting al-Mutanabbi Street for the very first time as I had imagined. The simple act of cutting, pasting and burnishing the text - 3 or 4 lines to a page was a form of prayer in the making as was writing his story. Each book was then inserted into a specimen bag procured from the WTC Health Registry in NYC thus closing a tragic circle: sectarian violence would not have exploded in Iraq if the US had not invaded in its endless quest for oil and filial payback from a delusional president. The world knows that 9/11 and Iraq were never conjoined. |
