Description: |
screenprint. Open Edition. As Im writing this introduction to my poster, Books not bombs, reports of successful bombing raids on Iraq are filling the air waves. To the bombers, successful means the destruction of schools, hospitals, roads, and power plants. Successful means the maiming and murdering of ordinary Iraqis who get caught in the cross-hairs. In 2007, when the Al Mutanabbi Street book sellers were bombed, the survivors answered this senseless act by resolutely rebuilding their neighborhood. I am honored to join cultural workers from around the world who have rallied to support the book sellers and the right of free expression. I hope that viewers of my work leave with a broader vision of Iraqi culture, one that includes the full spectrum of Middle Eastern voices. Thank you Al Mutanabbi Street book sellers (Retrieved from IUCAT November 6, 2019). |
