Description: The G.W. McBride was built in 1916 at Elizabeth, Pennsylvania as the Conqueror. The Conqueror was upset in a storm and sank. She was raised, rebuilt, and named the G.W. McBride by Captain Birch McBride. She was sold to the Ohio River Company. In May of 1942 she was in Madison for repairs along with the Crown Hill under the supervision of Captain Roy McBride. In October the general overhauling of the McBride was in its final stages. The yards completed three new rudders and new boilers from Louisville were installed. The boat was given new sides and a new head log and was made four feet wider. Full length timbers (can be seen under caption Timbers) were used in the construction of the sides of the hull. On November 27th the McBride left for Louisville where she passed inspection and was allowed 250 pounds of steam pressure. On February 22, 1942, the G.W.
