Description: |
Here you can see some of the devastation the ice caused during the harsh winter of 1917-1918. The ferryboat "Trimble" is caught and nearly buried in the thick ice. She did survive but was badly damaged. On February 20, 1918 the newspaper reported, "Arrangements have been made to beach the Trimble on the levee at the foot of East Street, where repairs will be made to the boat. It will take six weeks or two months to complete repairs in the opinion of the owners. One side of the hull will have to be practically rebuilt and damage to the wheelhouse and decks of the boat will have to be repaired before the Trimble is in commission again." |
