Description: |
The Idlewild was sold to J. Harold Gorsage in 1947 and the name was changed to Avalon. She became the most widely traveled excursion boat on the rivers. During her tramping days she made stops at Omaha, Nebraska; New Orleans; Stillwater, Minnesota; Jolliet, Illinois; Charleston, West Virginia; and Knoxville to name a few. By 1962 she was ready for the trash heap when the city of Louisville bought her at auction for $34,000. After much work and refurbishing, she became the proud and stately Belle of Louisville.
