W. C. Mitchell (steamship)

Description: Perl Inville watches as the W .C. Mitchell passes by. In 1907 a new towboat was built and named George Matheson No. 2. She was known familiarly along the Kanawha River as the Bologna George. In 1920 she was renamed the W. C. Mitchell and she was owned by the Hatfield-Campbell Creek Coal Company. During the depression she was idle much of the time but when the Gen. Ashburn sank she went back on duty. She burned below Concord, Kentucky on the night of February 18, 1945.
