The 8434

Description: The hill engine was built in 1895 at the PCC & StL. Railway at Columbus, Ohio. In 1896 this locomotive replaced the M. G. Bright. It was given the M.G. Brights number, 634. The new 634 was renumbered 434 in 1900 and was finally given the number 8434 in about 1903. It burned coal. Water was carried in two huge side tanks and she was fitted with special cylinder brake equipment with pressure relief valve operation from the engine cab. Photograph taken circa 1925
