Description: |
The local newspaper, when it ran the obituary for Archie Lewis, stated, Archibald Archie Lewis, a well known local colored man, died at 5:30 oclock this morning at his home at the top of the Hatcher Hill following a long illness. Archie was a lifelong resident of Madison. He had a legion of friends, young and old, who genuinely mourned his passing. He was known to the citizens of Madison because of the shrill musical tunes played on his fife. He liked to dress himself and his mule Dumbo in colorful medals and parade about town playing his music. He was a great favorite with the children. Archie may well be remembered as the Pied Piper of Madison. |
