Letter, John C. Calhoun to John Tipton, 1823-03-28

Description: Calhoun appoints Tipton as Indian agent under the superintendency of Lewis Cass, governor of Michigan Territory. Letter discusses passing of duties from John Hays to Tipton. Tiptons compensation will be $1,200 annually. Tiptons appointment was approved by the Senate 22 December 1823. Reverse: Tipton notes, received 26 April and accepted 1 May 1823.
