Bass Lake State Fish Hatchery

Description: In 1912 the Bass Lake Businessmen & Anglers Society built a pond on the site of the future state fish hatchery and began raising fish for stocking the lake. By 1913 the Bass Lake Fish Hatchery was operated and maintained by the State of Indiana. In 1927 the Indiana DNR built a brick service building and manager’s residence in Colonial Revival Style. These buildings are listed on the National Historic Register today. After years of lying dormant, Purdue University purchased the hatchery in 2005 and is in the process of restoring the hatchery for academic and research purposes.
