Postcard depicting Fortville, Indianas business district. One local historian writes, The traffic light in the Main Street business district in Fortville is seen here. Before the discovery of local gasoline, the town had coal-oil lamps placed on the streets for lighting. After gas was discovered in the county in 1887, the town was lighted with natural gas.
