Exchange Hotel, Newburgh, Indiana

Description: Photograph of the Exchange Hotel at the southwest corner of Jennings and State Streets in Newburgh, Indiana. The hotel was built in 1841 by Joseph L. Spitz and has had mutliple uses over the years. During the Civil War, it was used as a Union hospital and armory. Later, the building housed the J. W. Fuquay store. In 1927, the building was purchased by Louis and Adele Chivian, and Chivians Department Store operated there until 1973.
