Roy Starkey with guitar at WIBC

This is autographed photo of Roy Starkey. Starkey appears wearing Western dress shirt and a bandana tie fixed with a tie slide in the shape of a head of a long horn cow. On his head is a cowboy style hat. He is holding a Martin Guitar at the base of the neck. At the top of the neck a guitar pick has been laced through two strings is visible. In front of Starkey is a microphone branded with the WIBC nameplate. Starkey performed live on WLS Barn Dance (Chicago), WLW Boone County Jamboree (Cincinnati, Ohio). He hosted the program “Top of the Morning” on WLW-TV and “Jelly Bean Acres” on WKRC-TV (Cincinnati, Ohio). Starkey died in 1965 after suffering a heart attack while hosting the Renfro Valley Barn Dance. He was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati (Billboard 10/16/1965 p57). |
