Saferite family in front of Kansas home

Description: The Saferite family poses for a photograph in front of their home in Neosho Falls, Kansas. Members of the family are identified, standing on the grass left to right, as Ola Saferite (1900-1955, married name Snodgrass), Ida Saferite (1898-1977, married name Cottingham), Ada Saferite (1894-1973, married name Mentzer), Charles Saferite (1858-1927), Susan McDaniel Saferite (1859-1932), and Iva Saferite (1889-1975). The young girl standing on the sidewalk is identified as baby May, likely a daugher of Ola, Ida, or Ada. Charles Saferite was born in Hendricks County and moved to Kansas with his parents in 1859. The house seen in the photograph is still standing at 1108 Oak Street, Neosho Falls, Kansas. Much of the city of Neosho Falls was destroyed by a flood in 1951 and then abandoned. The house was likely built in the 1860s, being identifiable on an 1871 birds eye sketch of Neosho Falls. Photograph is a part of the Relander Collection.
