Description: |
This photo shows Main Street as it appears from the top of the now torn down Syracuse, IN. There is quite a bit of the rest of the southern part of town visible. The 1901 building to the left was torn down to make parking. It is believed the next building has the date 1862 in stone at the top. The names of several stores that are no longer there today are visible in the photo including from left: National 5 & 10 Store, stairs up to LaPettite (Mrs. Connollys) Dress Shop, Star Store, Byron Connollys Grocery and Market, Pettits Dept. Store with Finance & Loan Co. above, then bank building. |
