Description: Correspondence, speeches, and other documents sent to and from Will H. Hays during the 1920s. Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about Hays vacation in Wyoming, Hollywood Screen Star Fashions Inc., the Roosevelt Memorial Association, Eastman Kodak Companys postal issues, Alanson Bigelow Houghtons campaign for the Senate, the American Potash Company, the Institute for the Crippled and Disabled, and the New York Fraternity Clubs. It also includes data about newspaper and magazine advertising, memos about the censorship of language in motion pictures, and correspondence with various film boards of trade asking them to turn over films dealing with politics and to stay out of the political situation.
