Correspondence, 1928 May 19-31

Description: Correspondence, speeches, and other documents sent to and from Will H. Hays during the 1920s. Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about requests for contributions, a labor situation between studios and cameramen, the American Potash Company, land in Bel Air that Hays is considering purchasing, and new policies toward censorship that were adopted by the Studio Relations Committee and examples of scenes that are unacceptable. It also includes minutes from a meeting of the Roosevelt Memorial Association, a copy of a plan for a proposed Exhibitors Organization, and a supplemental report related to the Teapot Dome investigation.
