Correspondence, speeches, and other documents sent to and from Will H. Hays during the 1920s. Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about the Brookhart Bill, newsreels, books written about the history of the film industry, the situation of the motion picture industry in Europe, and the Roosevelt Memorial Association. It also includes corrections to a transcript of Hays testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee about leases of naval oil reserves, a report of the Conference of the Committee of Visual Education of the National Fire Protection Association, and a program for the annual meeting and convention of volunteer workers of the Boy Scouts of America. This folder also contains a copy of the Annual Report from the MPPDAs general attorney regarding litigation, the Department of Justice, copyright, censorship, and other legal matters. |
