Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about requests for contributions, the American Potash Company, the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research, the Indiana Lincoln Union, the National Bishop Fallows Memorial, and a report that the Federal Trade Commission gave to Congress. It also includes a report about the labor situation in Hollywood and a report about the recent activities of a man in California who is involved in Mexican affairs.
