Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about a patent related to turn-table construction, the newsreels field, President Coolidges decision to not run for reelection, the labor situation at West Coast Theatres, the film Is Your Daughter Safe?, and the motion picture situation in Europe.
