Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about the Indiana Lincoln Union, the pension fund for Presbyterian ministers, a souvenir film made during Hays visit to Culver Military Academy, Gillespie System, Inc., West Point appointments, the Arts Council of the City of New York, Hays album of signed photographs, and the Continental Oil Company.
