Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about expenses related to Fire Prevention work in the MPDDA, aviation, the Motion Picture Theatre Owners of the Northwest, MPPDA budget reports, and the Federal Trade Commission and the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation. It also includes correspondence related to the creation of an album of autographed photographs of people in the movie industry for Hays birthday. This folder also contains a summary of upcoming legislative sessions, a copy of Hays remarks at the laying of the cornerstone of the Paramount Building, and a copy of Hays speech before the Presbyterian General Assembly. |
