Correspondence, speeches, and other documents sent to and from Will H. Hays during the 1920s. Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). The contents reflect some of Hays professional affiliations and interests. This folder also includes, but is not limited to, references to the following: summary of visits with theater owners discussing topics of Eastman Theater, increasing summer theater attendance and the value of pedagogical films; National Civic Federation resolutions emphasizing citizens duty to participate in political party organization work; Gaylord Davidsons view regarding the North returning Confederate battle flags to the South; use of non-inflammable film as fire prevention methods; and scrapping old films to prevent film pirating. |
