Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). The contents reflect some of Hays professional affiliations and interests. This folder also includes, but is not limited to, references to the following: discussions regarding the radio bill; motion picture industry annual report; reforestation and American Forestry Association; correspondence involving John Hurley; fire insurance and prevention in the motion picture industry; and motion pictures being considered theatrical performances and therefore illegal to show on Sundays. |
