Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). The contents reflect some of Hays professional affiliations and interests. This folder also includes, but is not limited to, references to the following: discussions regarding concerns of the Republican Party aligning with the Ku Klux Klan; Goldwyn-Metro merger; focus of the Murphy Film Bill to amend general business law of the motion picture industry based on input from interest groups such as fire protection, education, visual instruction, Eastman Kodak, Motion Picture Chamber of Commerce and MPPDA; and resolutions adopted by the National Civic Federation. |
