Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). The contents reflect some of Hays personal and professional affiliations and interests. This folder also includes, but is not limited to, references to the following: need for Film Club/Film Board of Trade to track motion picture theater data such as city location, seating capacity, owner, operating schedule/policies and competition; state of the motion picture industry; distinctive position of the Eastman Theater as the periods sole site to present The Covered Wagon film as part of its regular program; and Thomas Pattens continuation as organizations honorary representative. |
