Description: |
Mother Theodore expresses the desire of the Congregation to wish Bishop Bouvier happiness for his support of the Congregation. She speaks of the recent retreat and the dedication of the Sisters to follow the exercises. The Congregation now has thirty-three professed Sisters, twelve postulants and twelve novices. The schools suffer from Protestant opposition and economic depression. There are only thirty-three students. The Vincennes orphanges have forty-three girls and thirty-two boys under the care of the Sisters. Mother Theodore wishes that Father Sorin had charge of the boys. Bishop St. Palais provided funds for building that were spent on provisions. Mother Theodore hopes that Father Corbe will be in charge of the diocese when Bishop Palais travels to France. An establishment in Louisiana is offered to the Congregation and there is a disagreement about the interpretation of the Rules pertaining to Chapters XIV and IX, which Mother Theodore asks Bishop Bouvier to clarify. Dated December 18, 1850. |
