Correspondence from Aletha Grace Hawk to her family in Indianapolis, Indiana during her time in Washington, D.C. and Europe mainly during 1918-1919, describing her work with the Red Cross in France and later, secretary again to Frederic M. Ayres, Sr. as part of the European commission of the Red Cross, and her travels through France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Germany, before heading home to Indianapolis in December, 1919. Also included are one letter from 1921 describing Marshall Ferdinand Fochs visit to Indianapolis and two letters sent to her from a French refugee describing conditions in occupied France during World War II (1940-1941), as well as poetry. |
