Compilation film taken by Indianapolis native Harry H. Coburn of activities and events related to World War I in Indianapolis, Indiana ranging from 1917 to 1927. It was filmed at Fort Benjamin Harrison and in downtown Indianapolis. The events depicted include soldiers training and performing calisthenics at Fort Harrison in 1917; a parade for visiting French officials, Vice Premier Rene Viviani and Marshal Joseph Joffre on Mary 8, 1917, 4 Indiana artists admiring the war chest poster they painted at a savings bond drive on Monument Circle in May, 1918; and scenes from Welcome Home Day on May 7, 1919. There is also footage concerning the building of the Indiana World War Memorial in Indianapolis, which includes the moving of the Haugh Hotel in 1926; the laying of the cornerstone attended by General John J. Pershing on July 4, 1927, and building of the memorial. |
