One section of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt displayed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., presumably on October 11, 1987 during the Lesbian and Gay Rights National March. It was displayed on the Ellipse in front of the White House for several subsequent years before returning to the Mall. The quilt contained 1,920 panels with the names of people who died of AIDS-related causes. |
