Description: Transcript of three oral history interviews with Earl Bettinger at his home in Tell City, Indiana on September 13, 1977, September 15, 1977 and April 7, 1978 with F. Gerald Handfield of the Indiana State Library. Bettinger discusses his family, childhood in Tell City, his grandfathers involvement with the Tell City Wooleen Mills, including a story of a mill fire, education, life near the Ohio River, relations between Catholics and Protestants, employment, the 1913 flood, World War I, and his work in the ferry business. There are also expressions of racism towards people of color, including the use of derogatory language.
