304 East Main Street, Lebanon

Description: Caption on back: The Benjamin Booher home as it appeared sometime between 1903 and 1910, at 304 East Main Street. The site is now occupied by the Apartment House built by Caleb O Brown and Harry A. McDaniel in or around 1918-1919. Booher bought the house from Bart Higgins in 1891, and lived there until his death in 1910. Mr. Booher is in the buggy and his second wife is standing at the portch. the horse was Charley. Who built the house is not known but it may have been Bart Higgins. From the Lebanon Patriot, May 28, 1891: B. S. Higgins has sold his property on E. Main St. to Benj. Booher, of Whitestown for $4,500. House was probably built in 1883 by Barton S. and Emma Higgins. Ben Booher was 85 years old in April 1906.Accompanying caption: the picture was taken in late 1903 or later as picture shows street brick paved and this was done in the summer of 1903. The house was razed in 1919. This beautiful old brick home stood at 304 E. Main Street, on the site now occupied by the Brown-McDaniel Apartments. the gentleman in the buggy was Mr. Benjamin Booher (1821-1910) the grandfather of Ben Tomlinson, 818 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon, who loaned me the original for duplicating. The woman standing is Mr. Boohers second wife. the two women seated and the man showing in an upstairs window are unidentified. the horses name was Charley. Mr. Booher bought the house at least as early as 1892 and lived there until his death in 1910. He bought the house of Bart Higgins.--Ralph W. Stark.
