Vivens, Viscount to John Badollet, June 28, 1836

Description: Vivens begins this letter explaining that he did receive Badollet’s letter from January, but it had to be forwarded to him in Paris, and by the time he received it he was too busy to respond thoroughly. Still, he was very happy to read about the details of Badollet’s life and what he has done in the fifty years it has been since he tutored Vivens and his siblings in Barry. Vivens goes on to describe the qualities he admires about Badollet—his constancy, his courage, his industry, his ambition—then updates his old mentor on the lives of his siblings. He then talks about the serendipity of being able to reach out to someone from his childhood so many decades later, as well as work, religion, other old friends and acquaintances, and France. The letter ends with Vivens giving his regards and well wishes to Badollet.
