This letter was written by Daniel Roberts to his mother, sisters, and friends while he was stationed at Camp Carrollton in New Orleans, Louisiana with Company K of the 8th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He describes his regiments travel from Vicksburg to New Orleans on a gulf steamer in addition to his observations of Louisiana cities. He describes southern plantation homes and slave quarters, food, and the different sites he visited. |
