Eli Lilly collection of Civil War envelopes

Description: These 65 envelopes contain illustrations, political cartoons, and text which represent Union propaganda during the U.S. Civil War. Some images are mainly patriotic, while others provide political or propagandist commentary on specific events or historical figures. Several envelopes have racist imagery against enslaved people or violent depictions of Confederate or secesh leadership. Most of the envelopes are blank, but a few were addressed to James H. Luther and members of the Waymire family.
