An 11-stanza poem written by John A. Botts and dated June 12, 1863. The poem relates the movement and actions of Company C, 59th Indiana Regiment during the Vicksburg campaign of the U.S. Civil War. Botts died on September 11, 1863. At the end of the poem there is a note dated June 25, 1863 from William Owen to Mary Owen that says, Mary I send you this poetry and if you get it I want you to take good Cear [care] of it till I come home. |
