Pavys Grocery Store, 118 West Main Street, Plainfield, Indiana. In October 1947, Pavy’s Grocery customers formed a long line Meat Line, celebrating the lessened ration restrictions of the OPA. From 1941–1947 the Office of Price Administration had the power to ration consumer items, including meats, coffee, tires, shoes, nylon, sugar, and gasoline. Pavy’s Grocery was located at 118 West Main Street and opened on April 7, 1947 and closed in 1954. Robert Pavy purchased the former Elliott Grocery Store from the estate of W. R. Elliott, who had successfully run his independent grocery business here until his death. Beechams Store sign is visible on the right. |
