Description: |
A photograph of downtown Jeffersonville. Spring Street was and is a commercial hub of the city. This image is looking south towards the Ohio River. It shows the dirt streets with trolley tracks. The open gutters that some businesses have laid wooden strips across so folks can go from the sidewalk to the street without jumping a gutter. An early fire hydrant is depicted in the front left hand corner. Coming towards the viewer is a horse drawn trolley, while to horses wait patiently while harnessed to their buggies. The buildings are much as they are now, but more have awnings covering the front level. |
