40. 111 West Chestnut Street

Description: This restored building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1982. To its left, the city has created a small walled garden that is used for a variety of functions. Built by brothers David and Wilson Grisamore, with each brother owning a half, until Wilson left for Louisiana. It survived the 1838 flood that destroyed much of the city. In 1981 a fire destroyed part of it, but it was renovated and now serves as office space. The house has recessed entrances and upper level porches. The double sided curved stairway to the above ground floor entrance is a popular spot for wedding photographs.
