Begun in 1868 as a Republican newspaper titled Greene County Times, the Times went through several owners before The Weems family took over in 1894. By 1925, Robert F. Weems had died, leaving the paper under the management of Mrs. Weems and her son Chester. The title had been a twice-weekly publication until Weems made it a once-weekly in 1925.
