Description: |
This room is located on the 2d floor. The Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) was organized in 1866 as a veteran’s fellowship and remembrance organization. It was succeeded by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (S.U.V.C.W.), a memorial, education, and lineage society. The courthouse is thought to have one of the last remaining functioning G.A.R. rooms in the country. It is unknown what meeting or celebration was being held at the time of this photograph. |
