World-renowned cyclist Major Taylor before the start of his first European race at the Friedenau track in Berlin, Germany in April 1901. He lost the race against German champion Willie Arend (partially hidden cyclist on far left) and Danish champion Thorwald Ellegaard (middle). Taylor beat them merely days later on the same track and went on to win 47 of 54 European races that season. |
