Description: |
This building served as the primary residence of Francis La Fontaine, last chief of the unified Miami people during the 1840s. The origins of the building are uncertain. It is possible that it was constructed about 1834 at the behest of Miami leader Jean Baptiste Richardville, to serve as a council house, where the Treaty at the Forks of the Wabash may have been signed in 1838. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with two other buildings. |
