Portrait of the 29th Great Council Degree of Pocahontas of Indiana in Indianapolis on October 19, 1922. The portrait is taken on the steps of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. Degree of Pocahontas are the female auxiliary organization of the Improved Order of Red Men, a fraternal organization for white men whose rituals and regalia are modeled after what they believed were Native American rituals. There are both men and women in the portrait. The Degree of Pocahontas was organized in 1885. |
