The Indianapolis Municipal Airport as it appeared in October, 1930, which opened in 1931. M. G. Johnson, 1st Civil City Engineer of Indianapolis, was the airport engineer. The airport was renamed the Weir Cook Municipal Airport in 1944 after Colonel Harvey Weir Cook of the U.S. Army Air Forces, who was from Wilkinson, Indiana. Between 1957 and 2008, the passenger terminal was renovated many times, and was eventually demolished, making way for a new terminal, which opened in 2008. Today the airport is known as the Indianapolis International Airport. |
