Description: |
The construction of the Illinois Building was announced in 1924 by L. Strausss & Company. Rubush & Hunter were the architects behind this ten story building with frontage on both Illinois and Market Street. It was advertised as a luxurious building that sought upscale stores to occupy the storefronts. The picture shows the ten story building with buildings on either side of the structure. A busy intersection sits in front of the Illinois Building that includes pedestrians, buses and cars. Nearly all of the pedestrians are wearing long coats, indicating a colder period of the year.
